Laundry Organizing Tips

  • Sort through laundry detergents, fabric softeners and cleaning supplies. Save space by consolidating like contents into one bottle and recycling empty ones.
  • Next, take a look at existing shelving and cabinets to make sure they’re efficient. If not, maximize the space by adding freedomRail storage systems.
  • Add under-the-cabinet baskets to existing shelves. They’re perfect for containing loose items and can be used anywhere you have a solid shelf.
  • If your laundry room has a door, create new space by adding hooks or over the door solutions to hang clothes, laundry supplies or an ironing board.
  • Save time by folding clothes or hanging them on a garment rack immediately after drying so you don’t have to break out the iron. If you’re passed the wrinkle stage, simply throw in a wet wash cloth and dry for a few minutes longer to keep clothes looking fresh.
  • Have a supply of appropriate hangers handy. Plastic hangers are sturdy and moisture friendly. Use padded hangers for drying sweaters and delicates.
  • Keep laundry bags or baskets in each family member’s bedroom so they can tote them easily to and from the laundry room. Use different colors so they can quickly identify their bag.
  • Keep a lost and found bin in the laundry room for things that fall out of the pockets like money, coins and keys.
  • Sliding baskets are a great way to keep items separated by family member. Once they’re full, baskets can easily be removed and carried to any place throughout the home.
  • Hang a message board on the wall to keep a list of what you're out of or to post your weekly laundry schedule for the family.
