Tips for Organizing the Office!
Start with clearing the clutter.
Clear your desktop and throw out pens and highlighters that aren’t working. Purge paperwork that is outdated.
Clear all the small items from your desktop
like erasers, paperclips, extra pens and pencils and store in drawer organizers to keep them untangled in your desk drawers.
Once your desk papers have been sorted,
create an inbox that has at least 4 sections.
Label th
em as
“incoming mail,”
“to do,”
“outgoing mail”
and
“to be filed.”
It’s a simple way to keep papers organized.
Use office storage boxes or photo boxes for storing and archiving important papers,
photos, vacation brochures or magazines. They’re great because you can label them on the front to keep track of what’s inside.
Use message boards that attach to the wall near your desk.
This is a useful way to keep important reminders in view so they won’t be missed. Try one with a wall calendar for double duty so you can quickly reference the date and your daily activities.
Once your desk is clear, it’s time to
evaluate your office furniture.
Rearrange or make additions, for a more efficient space. Multiple desks arranged in an ‘L’ or ‘U’ shape give you a computer area and a work space for paperwork.
Add file cabinets and bookcases. They will provide you with more room to store office files and paperwork efficiently and will ultimately free up desk space.
Keep computer, phone, scanner and fax machine cords tidy with cord organizers.
Add tags to label cords so you can easily locate them.
Use wall space to keep clutter off your work surface.
Hang vertical magazine racks, adjustable freedomRail wall shelves, or frames on the wall so you save valuable desk space for working.
Always
straighten your desk at the end of the day
so you’ll have a fresh start the next morning!
